One of Two Main types of Chamomiles we know today (the other is the English or Roman type) - the oils from these two types are also very distinguishable and the effects of one can in no way be prescribed to the other. The German or Hungarian type chamomile oil are relatively the same species, though through history, in different locations. The German chamomile grows about 60 cm high and has a hairless branching stem, with delicate feathery leaves and simple daisy like white flowers on single stems.
When fresh, the oil from the German Chamomile is a deep royal ink blue. This is due to the presence of chamazulene. This oil is also known to contain bisabolol. Both of these compounds have been reported in scientific literature to have beneficial medicinal effects. Specifically anti-inflammatory properties.
Recognised for its anti-inflammatory properties, which is beneficial for dermatitis, eczema, skin rashes and allergies, inflamed joints and muscles, sprains and neuralgia, as well as menstrual pain. It is an excellent oil to aid in inflamed or dry skin conditions and facial preparations for sensitive or mature skin. It can also be beneficial for treating cuts, boils, abscesses and skin ulcers. Beneficial in skin care remedies, similar qualities as Roman/English Chamomile, except that its anti-inflammatory properties are greater because of the higher content of azulene.
