Turpentine is distilled from the pine resin or gum, from tapping into a tree of various Pinus genus. By tapping into a tree it causes no damages whatsoever and can be tapped for a further 20 years or more. A similar process like rubber tapping, though a much slower run from the tree, with a cup and gutter system is used for collection. A desired 2 - 3 Kg is collected each year, after distillation - a remainder of approximately 20% in Turpentine oil and 70% in rosin (the solid by-product left behind - which is widely used in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries). Depending on each type of Pinus species around the world all generally differ to quality and yields, concentrating on the species and most importantly - the climatic conditions.
Known for centuries for its many applications, especially with regard to
pulmonary infections and digestive complaints. Turpentine essence or
spirit of turpentine is said to be four times more active than crude
turpentine
It is said to aid in the pulmonary and genito-urinary infections, digestive complaints and externally as a treatment for rheumatic or neuralgic pain and skin conditions. Apply in many ointments and lotions for aches and pains, cough and cold remedies. Suitable for insect repellency. Easily and readily absorbed, with low irratency - helps to support and increase the addition and absorption of other of other oils.
