Not an overly tall tree, but a slow growing evergreen shrub tree of about 10 metres tall, grown in the wild, with narrow bluish-green needles. Flowers and round green berries in their first year, turning black in the second and third years. Which require 3 growing seasons to fully mature.
It is a native to northern Europe, it is now commonly found in the dry areas of Europe, America and Asia. As the essential oil is produced from most parts of the plant including leaves and branches, the berries yield the highest quality essential oil. The berries come from the dried fruit of the female cone which is collected for distillation.
This particular variety grows wild in the Tyrol (Tirol, known as the "Land of the Mountains", Austria) region and is considered a premium option. Obviously, due to different geographical locations and weather conditions, the various constituents will be slightly somewhat different.
Juniper has been used to aid in the prevention of many contagious diseases. The plant was once believed to expel evil spirits, negative forces and illnesses. These parts were also effectively used for the same manner in cleansing and purifying the mind, body and spirit.
This crisp essential oil is used in aromatherapy to help stimulate and strengthen the nerves and bolster the spirits in challenging situations, while helping to relieve urine retention. It is used for treating rheumatism, arthritis and gout, as well as cellulite, acne, dermatitis, blocked pores, psoriasis and weeping eczemas. It disinfects air and may help with kidney stones, inflammation, urinary tract infections, acne, eczema, skin diseases, and dandruff.

FACT : More recently, in areas of Europe and Asia - the needles and berries were used to make infusions for kidney and stomach upsets, which native Americans from the Pacific Northwest used tonics made from the branches to treat colds, flu, arthritis, muscle aches, kidney problems, bronchitis, colic and coughs.
