An attractive evergreen tree, with deep green foliage that produces sweet fruits in winter. Sharing the same botanical name as Mandarin, it is possibly a similar variant of the Mandarin and the Orange, with a rich deep Reddish-Orange colour, producing a thin skinned fruit which is easy to peel and pull apart like a mandarin, and smaller than an orange though sweeter and stronger in flavour.
The fruit rind is cold pressed to produce the essential oil, the medicinal properties of Tangerine are also very similar to that of the Mandarin, and being rather similar to Bitter Orange oil.
Tangerine oil is said to help with stretch mark, cellulite and reduce fluid retention - by improving blood circulation, that then helps to regulate skin oils secretions leading to a more vibrant and healthier skin, with additional moisturising effect. Also suitable for acne, dandruff and other skin and scalp/hair irritations. A relaxant for the nerves and mind. A digestive soother and booster for digestive complaints.
Safety Precautions : Flammable.
Blends well with : Basil, Bergamot, Black Pepper, Cinnamon, Clary Sage, Clove, Coriander, Frankincense, Lavender, Marjoram, Neroli, Nutmeg, and other citrus and spice oils.
FACT : As this particular citrus was first cultivated in China, it gained popularity throughout Japan over 3,000 years ago. When European travelers and traders began trading with the orient and the ports of South East Asia, it quickly spread to the Mediterranean markets. The name is said to have been derived from a port called Tangiers in Morocco, as it was first shipped from Europe to the Americas during the 1800's.
